Lucid Dreaming While Being Sick: My Strange Story

So the other night, I had a lucid dream experience while I was ill. This was a little different to most other experiences, and I’m not sure why.

Maybe it’s because my body was trying to fight off infections and so was less aware or active in other areas? I’m not sure, but here’s what happened!

My lucid dream while I was ill

I had a cold. I was sniffing and sneezing, and therefore was finding it very difficult to fall asleep. I couldn’t really get to sleep no matter how hard I tried (or didn’t) so I just laid there. I just waited and hoped that after an hour or so I’d just fall asleep naturally and that would be that.

It didn’t happen like that.

Instead, I get one of the most unusual and scary Lucid Dreams I’ve ever had in my life. This is a short post, and I know there has been a slight delay with posting on this site for a while, partly because I’ve been very busy and ill, but nevertheless, we’re coming back. There will be some other changes as well, see the about section for more information.

So, this night I’m laying there, sniffing and feeling like death and I notice that I have started to feel very light. It’s almost as if I can rise up out of the bed. I realise the second or third time this happens that it’s not real and that I’m actually just dreaming. This leads me to ask the question, ‘SO how can I still hear and feel myself sniffing, exactly as I was before?’

And what I’m about to tell you is the description of what happened next. It may have been a dream, or it may have just been half dream and half reality, but either way it was a very unusual lucid dream.

Normally I can tell instantly whether I’m dreaming or not, simply because I’ve been doing this for several years. I can just realise when I’m dreaming or not. This night was certainly different, because I was ill. I was drifting i and out of consciousness as I had such a big headache but at the same time, I was very tired and all my muscles ached. I was very easy to fall asleep in this state.

But at the same time, it was also easy to wake up and this led to a night where I was constantly falling asleep and waking up. I fell asleep for the 4th or 5th time, (can’t remember details, I was ill after all!) when I sniffed. I’m a sniffer and whenever I have a cold people around me get the pleasure of hearing me sniff at various volumes throughout the day. I know you’re meant to blow your nose instead of sniffing, but it’s just a habit at this point.

Sniffing made me have an OBE?

I sniffed and felt that I was thrown outside my head, into a small project of energy floating above my pillow. I could look down, which is weird cause it was pitch black, and I could see myself laying there, sniffing away. It’s almost as if the cold had cast me outside of my body and into the aether.

The annoying thing is that while I was self aware and able to move around in this little orb, I still couldn’t really work out what was happening, because I couldn’t control anything. I could only float around looking down at myself sniffing, and if the sniffing got too intense and I looked like I was uncomfortable in the bed, I’d snap back into the body and wake up.

When I woke up it was very hazy and I may have even been asleep the whole time and just had a string of false awakenings, but it’s certainly the most unusual dream I’ve had that I’ve been lucid for. As the night went on, the same thing kept happening, and the same pattern as well, almost as if my sniffing kept waking me up, even though I could see myself sniffing from a floating vantage point above the pillow.

Maybe it was day residue

Maybe I’d been sniffing and sneezing so much throughout the day that it just carried on into my dreams, and I created the image of myself laying there, or maybe it was a true OBE. The trouble with OBEs and Astral Projection is that it’s very different to Lucid Dreaming. With LD you can prove it’s real and you can know within your own mind that it’s real, but since OBES and astral projection involve interacting with a real and physical plane, it requires more evidence in order to be accepted by people.

I don’t know whether what I experienced was astral projection, and to be honest it’s not something I’ve got much experience with, but if it was a Lucid Dream, and I ‘projected’ and created the very realistic image of myself lying on the bed sniffing, then it was very unusual and vivid indeed.
