Mind machines or ‘meditation machines’ are a fascinating type of meditation/mind and mental state device that can help you relax, visualise things and slip into different brainwave states. They can help you lucid dream, focus more, sleep better and all sorts of other things.

Imagine a device that you can put on that sort of ‘charges up’ your brain.

You can tell the device what ‘setting’ to use, and what sort of charge you need. For example:

  • Maybe you want to focus more?
  • Maybe you want to lucid dream?
  • Study or work for longer without getting bored?
  • Or maybe you just want to ‘trip out’ and experience some visuals

Whatever you want to do, it’s pretty likely a ‘mind machine’ can help you do it.

In this article, I just want to share my experiences with a wide range of these mind machines, and explain how they work. If you’re new to all of this, have an open mind and get comfortable. It’s a really exciting device or type of devices, but you need to know how they work, and what to look for.

When I first discovered mind machines I felt so excited, it was like I could almost ‘hack my brain’ and instruct it how to feel or perform.

There are LOTS of different mind machines and it can be confusing to know which ones are the best.

They all do slightly different things, and have slightly different effects.

Confusing, right?

  • Kasina: A mid range mind machine with lots of tracks and extras. This is the first mind machine I ever tried, and it’s amazing. Read my full Kasina review here.
  • Limina: The newest mind machine and also the BEST one! beautiful design, and it comes with all of the features of the others, plus more
  • David Delight PRO: An interesting alternative to the Kasina with similar numbers of tracks, and features. I wrote a review of this too if you’re interested.
  • Laxman: The Laxman is a great mind device because it can be used on the go. It’s fairly portable! Check out my Laxman review for more information
  • MindLighz by Mindgear: A fairly new mind machine that can be used with your phone. Much cheaper than most other devices but not as high quality

And now, if you want to learn more about them, scroll down!

I’ve created this post to guide you through the endless pages of mind machine listings on Amazon and other websites like Mindplace and others. This is the best mind devices/machines on the market in 2021 and onwards, compared and explained. I won’t include the price of these mind machines, as the vendors sometimes change them from time to time but I will show you where you can buy them!

How light and sound mind machines work

Light and sound mind machines or devices work by GUIDING your brain into certain states. When you listen to something like binaural beats or other forms of brainwave entrainment, it’s very effective but of course it’s missing the visual aspect.

Mind machines take it one step further by showing you perfectly timed visuals through goggles, designed so that all you can see or hear is the brainwave entrainment track you’re listening to and watching. They block out everything else so there are literally no distractions at all.

Mind machines are a powerful way to guide your brain into certain states, and relax deeply.

They’re also a great way to meditate and yes, they really do work!

Why Use Mind Machines?

You might be thinking, what’s the point?

Especially when you notice that most mind machines cost a few hundreds dollars usually. Why bother? Why not just meditate on your own? Well, there’s a very simple reason, and it’s to do with your EFFORT and your TIME.

Sure, you could meditate without a mind machine,

But if you meditate WITH one, you could get the benefits and effects of an HOUR or more of deep meditation, in just a few minutes. For me, that makes it well worth the investment. I value my time, but I also know meditation is important. This is a perfect way to keep all of your time but also get the benefits of longer meditation sessions.

So, let’s get onto the list of the BEST meditation machines on the market…

Best mind machines

I thought it was about time someone created a really detailed list of mind machines and just honestly reviewed the top meditation machines on the market, so I did!

You’ll find a mixture of light and sound mind machines, microprocessor controller machines and other meditation devices and masks. If this isn’t what you’re after, you could check out my post about lucid dreaming masks.

1: The Limina Mind Machine (My best pick)

The Limina is actually a brand new meditation device from Mindplace, new for 2019. It contains ALL the tracks from the Procyon and Sirius, PLUS a Gamma section. You can also create your OWN binaural beats as well. This is probably the best value for money of any mind machine on the market today.

2: The Kasina mind machine

The Kasina device is one of the BEST mind machines out there. It’s certainly my mind machine of choice, even compared to more expensive models.

The word ‘Kasina’ refers to an ancient phrase meaning ’to use visualised objects to guide the mind’. It’s great for breaking out of negative states like anger and can be used to help you relax and slip into a profoundly bliss mental state. You can also read my full review of the Kasina device here.

I know this is a comparison post but if I had to only get ONE meditation machine, it would be the Kasina.

I’ve personally tried it in DEPTH and I can say that time after time it performs well. I often just plug into the Kasina when I want a little boost during the day now!

3: The Proteus machine

The Proteus by Mindplace is a fantastic product, at a very low price compared to the others. It’s a very simple device that lets you easily relax by changing a colour (that you see in the goggles) from red to green.

The Proteus green and red mind machine

The idea is that you’re using a biofeedback loop to change your brainwaves because you can observe them as either red or green (or colours in between).

A very effective and low cost way of calming down if you experience anger often, and a great way to just relax and get started with meditation! Check it out here!

I think this device is actually very under-rated for what it can do. It’s on par with the Kasina and a fraction of the price. If yo’re looking for a good entry level mind machine with god solid features, this is it. In fact most people who are new to mind machines would do very well with this one.

4: The Procyon device

This is another device by Mindplace, the Procyon is designed so that you don’t need to keep your eyes open.

I’ve had a lot of experience trying out the Procyon and I have to say, it’s a great addition to your collection. Even if you’ve never used a mind machine, this is a great one to get as your first.

Of course because it’s cheaper than the Kasina, it isn’t quite as high quality but it’s still very useable. I made a video of me unboxing it and showing you how it works:

5: The David Delight PRO

So the David Delight PRO is another very good light and sound mind machine much like the Kasina. It boasts 25 sessions (audio and visual tracks) out of the box, and can help you overcome anxiety.

It can even help you monitor your heart rate in relation to your breathing, which is really useful. It’s made by a really cool company called MindAlive. You can read my full review of the David Delight PRO or just go to their site.

6: The Laxman mind machine

The Laxman mind machine uses ganzfield goggles (which I believe they filed a patent for) and can transmit the visuals through the goggles into even closed eyes.

The laxman mind machine

You can relax with this machine even if your eyes are closed, you’ll still see the patterns and hear the sounds.

This is often out of stock on Amazon so go here now and check it it’s available! (Opens in a new tab). I really like this device because it isn’t too expensive but the features you get are on par with some other, more expensive models.

Do mind machines really work?

Yes, they do. There wouldn’t be thousands of reviews and testimonials if they didn’t.

It’s much like binaural beats, for the large group of people who have never tried them, they’re skeptical because it SOUNDS like it’s too good to be true but for those who have actually made the leap and tried a mind machine (or indeed binaural beats) they quickly realise how awesome they are!

I remember the first time I tried a mind machine it was the Kasina actually, I was blown away by how well it worked. And when I first put it on, I was SUPER skeptical as you should be! If someone makes crazy claims, they should have crazy evidence or results to back it up.

This is no exception and I invite you to BE SKEPTICAL and give these machines a try.

Laxman vs Kasina: What’s best?

It really depends on what you want the machine to do. The Laxman seems to have slightly better goggles in terms of the design and build, but the device itself is fairly similar. If you have the budget for it, the Kasina is the superior machine but the Laxman is a great alternative as well.

I don’t really like comparing things like this because at the moment, MOST of the mind machines on the market are actually really good. Maybe that’s because Mindplace seems to be the main company making them, so they’re sort of competing with themselves, much like DJI in the drone space.

I think as the technology becomes more well known, lots of companies will start creating these devices and making them better and better. But for now, Kasina is my mind machine of choice.

I’ve found a nice comparison chart showing the various features of the different mind machines offered by Mindplace.

What’s the best mind machine on the market

My personal pick right now, has to be the Limina mind machine. It’s a perfect blend of functionality, affordability and design. I think as far as I can see, it’s also the best in terms fo features. You can upload and design your own tracks, play around with the settings and customise everything.

The interesting thing about the Limina is that the effects are always good.

If you use it every single day for a year, the effects will be just as strong as the first time you used it, and I’m not sure if that’s because the audio tracks are so detailed and well composed or because the audio quality and binaural beats are just created perfectly.

IMPORTANT: For any mindmachine on Mindplace, you can get a generous discount by clicking this link and then entering the code: LUCID10 at the checkout. I’ve negotiated this discount for you guys because I REALLY feel that mind machines like the Kasina can help you meditate more easily and therefore lucid dream more.
