Writing. Today we’re going to talk about how you can induce a lucid dream by… Writing. Yeah you heard that right. This is all about a technique called the writing induced lucid dreaming technique or WRILD for short.

It’s called that so it’s not confused with the WILD technique which uses the same first letter for the abbreviation.

Using writing to lucid dream

This is a fairly effective technique and should be tested for about 2 weeks or so. You can also combine this with other techniques, and I’ll mention those at the bottom of this post. Don’t skip to that just yet though! You still with me?

What is the writing initiated lucid dreaming technique?

The WRILD technique is all about mantras.

It involves writing something down so many times that you really do start to believe it, and it helps you to induce a lucid dream very quickly. You don’t do this writing all day like reality checks, but you DO do it every day. It’s all about ‘mantras’. We’ll cover what these are in a moment. All you’ll need to get started is a pen and paper, and some time.

How does the WRILD technique work?

It works through repetition. By repeating something enough times, you drill it into your head.

It’s like back in school, if you got made to write ‘lines’. You’d have to write the exact same thing over and over again until it was so firmly planted in your head that you couldn’t forget it if you wanted to. It’s like that with this.

You’re writing something, a mantra, so many times that it’s firmly in your head and you don’t forget it. This way, you’re much more likely to remember the thing in your dreams, and become lucid.

Repeating mantras is a powerful thing

A mantra is usually something you repeat over and over again.

It’s traditionally used in meditation to enter a deeper state of relaxation by making your mind focus on only one thing so that everything else fades out, and you can relax more. For the purposes of this article, a mantra refers to the REPETITION of something.

Mantras or repetition is powerful.

Using mantras to lucid dream by writing them down

You can use it build habits and change your life.

Want to earn more money? Make your password a mantra so that every time you log into your email, you have to type something like ‘iamrich34557457’ and after a year or so, that idea will be so firmly in your mind, that you’ll have changed your behavior to match it.

It’s powerful.

Right, let’s get into the exact steps for the writing initiated lucid dream so you can get started.

Step 1 – Decide on a mantra

Pick a phrase to write down over and over again.

Here are some examples:

‘I am a master lucid dreamer’

‘I can easily control my dreams, and I always recognize when I’m dreaming’

‘Lucid dreaming happens easily and naturally for me’

‘Tonight, I will be aware of the fact that I’m dreaming’

You get the idea.

Step 2 – Start writing it down

Don’t over complicate this. Just get a bit of paper, and write down your chosen mantra again and again. Try and write it about 50-100 times. You can do it less but it’s more effective if you spend at least 10-20 minutes doing this.

The writing induced lucid dreaming technique

I’ve found that the best way is to spend about 25 minutes doing it, and by that point the words should start to slowly blur into one and you start to just think constantly about the mantra.

This is perfect because it will stick in your subconscious mind for a good 12 hours.

Step 3 – Believe in the power

REALLY believe that what you’re writing down is true. Focus on feeling the power of the words, and really believe them as you write them. This might feel strange or even silly at first, but stick with it. It’s worth it, I promise! After you’ve written the mantra about 50-100 times, keep the bit of paper (or bits) by your bed.

You should do this technique about 1-2 hours before you go to bed. You can do it in the day but it’s not as effective, because you want the mantra to be very firmly in your mind as you go to sleep.

Step 4 – Combine it with other techniques

A great technique to combine this with is the wake back to bed method.

Wake up as you would normally for the WBTB at about 4-5AM and then where you would normally get up and walk around for a few minutes, just perform the WRILD technique! This is a great combination because you’re already at the point in the night where lucid dreams are VERY likely.

Step 5 – Lucid dream! You’re free

Now you can lucid dream!

There are lots of things you could do from this point, but if you’re after some great ideas, check out the main benefits of lucid dreaming and also my list of things to do in a lucid dream.

Be sure to keep a journal so you can record WHICH mantras worked best for you! Good luck.

Tips and tricks

Here are some little things you can use to make this more effective.

Always test! Keep a notebook next to your bed and after a week of trying this, look back at what you’ve written to see which phrases and mantras worked the best for you. It will be different for everyone.

Mix it with other techniques – For example, the WBTB (mentioned earlier) and the MILD technique. These all work really well together.

Supplements – This technique works really well with vitamin B6, dreamleaf, and vivitamine. This is because these supplements help improve your MEMORY and mantras and memory go hand in hand.
